In a cold and swirling river
An ailing wolf they found
Not an easy rescue
They could have easily drowned
Very much the worse for wear
Drenched and beaten by
Broken down and sickly
Between the rocks did lie
Out of it unconscious
On it’s last legs, and
Suffering lamentably
It’s hard to understand
How some will go all out to save
And others walk away
Or rescue the poor victim
What anyone else might say
Leap into the swirling current
And bring the poor sad soul to shore
In a state of true collapse
Not prepared to ignore
A fellow earthling’s suffering
To carry the wolf and lie
It carefully on the mossy bank
Where otherwise it would die
CPR administered
The kiss of life as well
A womEn to a wild wolf
A story who would tell
Covered with a blanket
A hair dryer to dry
To show the true compassion
For a wolf who happened by
Unconscious to the world
He knew
Stretchered out of there
Revived by the truest empathy
And breath each did share
Surely weather beaten
And cold and frozen stiff
Scared out of its tiny life
Paralysed, and what if
The rescuers had been hunters
Had been trappers
Heartless men
This wolf had built up karma
Clearly now was when
His payback was in order
And the rescue was to be
Undertaken by true friends
With sensibility
They carried him to safety
To a hospital and they
Brought him back to life again
On that special day
Showed him love and kindness
Proved to him that he
Could be saved for they had braved
His wildest rhapsody
The music of the forest
The overture of life
The enthusiastic dreamer
The escapist from strife
Weeks passed and his recuperation
Was well underway
The wolf was able to go home
Haunted so to say
By the kindness of those humans
Who found him in the creek
Dying in a sorry state
And brought him back to peak
To reminisce and retrace his journey
Their evocative display
The mouth to mouth experience
That would never fade away
