The struggle to Spring

Through the hard hoary frost
At considerable cost
we rise through the sod
Now to show
Our heads and as flowers we will herald the Spring
We know it’s the best way to go
But it is quite a difficult journey
To push our shoots up to
The sky
around great big pebbles and bits of old brick
That now in our path want to lie

Tonight it’s not windy
But boy when it is
Peering, into the night sky
And facing the wrath of the goddess
Me thinks
Is worthy of one great long sigh
Fighting to stand there
Against hail and ice
That is forcing us back all the time
The sky is the limit
And With little support
It’s hard to continue the climb

With the massive tall trees
Rocking this way and that
And some fences being blown down
The rigour the shivery
Shadowy orchards
Being swept over in town
Winters shadow obscured
By the threat of the trees
And the ashen light
Bringing the mist
Within in our spirit
Our purses of colour
In spring will be hard to resist

Messages bursting to blow into life
Kaleidoscope magic will be
A spectrum that lures sleepy eyes
To endure
And embraces the bird and the bee
Citrine and mustard and saffron
Daffodils trumpeting far
Amethyst hyacinths waiting inline
To gaze fondly at the North Star

The sweet snowdrop she was the first
Pretty dancer
her white lacy dress she displayed
They burst through the hard snowy carpet
But by now are beginning to fade
Grape hyacinths too partnered the snow drops
Purple and white contrasts we
Are following fast behind
We are feeling strong
And here is where we love to be
