Possum to Charles Trexler

I was that earthling

that earthling was I

I was so very cold

under that sky

frozen in fact

the vent felt so nice

I slept there a while

it melted the ice

then you came along

with your ice shovel, you

took one look at me

and decided to do

something so shocking

to evict me from there

to drive me insane

and to despair

you bashed me

you  cracked me

your shovel was sharp

you hurt me

I blurted out

how I did karp

at your evil intention

begrudgingly

forcing me away

from the heat source

to be

that selfish, that sick

that low just means

you soon will suffer

and the machines

are going to get you

you  are going to be

frozen yourself

just wait and see

when you fall in the lake

and you turn icy blue

nobody in their right minds would save you

why would they help you

you didn’t help me

watch where you are going

for soon you will see

that lake open up

and the ice overhead

rock hard and you will feel cold

yes instead

of us peering down and smashing the ice

we will just stand and stare

hoping that will suffice
