Chrissie Hynde at the KOKO

KOKO it’s there
And it’s hardly surprising
It’s great heart is pumping
It’s red walls are something
It’s stairways a hive
Of activity
Thumping

the drums are spectacular
A great pulse of energy
Full of excitement
That’s how it must be
All of the workers
Are part of it too
Those wheels must keep turning
That’s what they do

And KOKO is good at it
That coming together
Of spirit and prowess
And wondering whether
Nothing is overlooked
What you can see
Is a lot of hard work
And a vision that be

Out of a fairy tale
For many souls
Who came here tonight
In their myriad roles
To see Chrissie Hynde
Ohio’s best
A diva with masses of life
To invest

She’s laid back and cool
With a soft heart and soul
A generous nature
Noble and whole
Ready to oblige
Sign some leaflets
And be
part of what is
That true mystery

We came via PETA
For animals, who
Chrissie like so many others
Does do
A lot, just allowing us
Passage to be
Here with our pamphlets
An epitome

It’s just perfect grace
To be, tied into
Koko’s sweet aura
And to do what we do
Sharing the spot light
Basking let’s say
In the spirit and comfort
Created today

Chrissie came out
And posed with us she
So laid back and cool
But with such synergy
That special spirit
It sprung from her will
Such confidence really
But unassuming still

We felt at ease straight away
Just With her charm
With her beautiful aura
Exuding the calm
She was kind and was thoughtful
she put us at ease
No regard to her workload
Just aiming to please

Her light clearly fell
Down on us
We could feel
How she cared how she shared
Just really her zeal
She was so relaxed
And passionate, she
Caught in an embrace
Of true honesty

We had decked out our stall
Near the great Yuletide tree
With its baubles and chains
And it’s own symphony
Of colours and angels
And evergreen charm
Feeling genuine really
And purposefully calm

December reminded us
Intimately
It’s breath was becoming
More wintry
The front doors were opened
Our bones took the bite
Raw and now nipping
We felt that alright

We shared Peta’s messages
And wished all good will
Then Tony arrived
With Yeoman, so still
In a sea of supporters
This man’s bright of face
With his black Labrador
And his true good grace

He assumed we were there
To look after his hound
We said we would love to
A mascot we’d found
He gave us a bowl and some biscuits
And we
were to look after Yeoman
Extraordinary

He was so passive
Obliging and strong
He stayed by our side
And enjoyed the great throng
PETA and Yeoman
And Claudia too
And me and the Christmas Tree
It’s just what you do

People were coming for hours
Up till 9
Outside it was pouring
With hearts on the line
With Jack Frosts cold air
Sweeping into the place
We needed our coats
And our scarves
But the pace

Was frantic more people
Were coming in, to
See Chrissie Hyndes
And what she would do
There was no let up
For Koko was there
On the spot sorting queries
All were aware

Hearing the buzz
Seeing it all
The coming together
My word they walk tall
And nobody phased really
No anger shown
These souls all well versed
With incredible tone

We all could hear Chrissie
Her voice and her song
Really spellbindingly beautiful
Long
after she finished each number
The applause we could feel
And hear in our hearts
No one could conceal

The way that she moves people
That’s what she does
And at the end, the incredible buzz
A hive of activity
As the souls left
Full of emotion
And many bereft
Of their calmness
Some of it they had left in the air
Leaving it clearly for Chrissie to share

We were given a tea shirt each
From her Stockholm gig
To be here tonight
I could have danced a jig
It really was joyful
So happy so wild
Out of so many
Their resident child

Into the night
Through the wind and the rain
We found the car
In the street once again
Camden’s eclectic backdrop to life
It’s hustle and bustle
It’s red route it’s strife
A wake up call really
To what we must do
Keep on spreading the message
For animals who

She is what she is
A real special soul
With her heart on her sleeve
Performing her role
In the great scheme of things
She is such a bright light
Jam packed with inspiration
And true delight
