Breaking the spirit

Holding back my tears

is hard

Imagining the pain

these indians are pitiless

heartless their refrain

relentless torture

on a baby in great fear

with a great big heart and soul

tied inside a wooden trap

and prodded with a pole

beaten on the head with a claw hammer

till it bleeds

this will break the spirit

and, this now succeeds

in wounding this poor creature

its suffering is there

for all to see

no respect whatsoever

just cruel indignity

and its all about the tourists

the blame is put on us

thats the imprecation

and one we should discuss

no animals should be put through this

by the ignorant who do

such terrible things to elephants

and blame it on to you

feel that animals terror

as it sucks in  each breath

beaten around the feet and trunk

perhaps it prays for death

to come now with its sickle

to chop away at life

and free him from this agony

this evil and this strife

the inner tears are apparent

there is blood in his throat

they really are vindictive

they persecute we note

their barbarous blood thirstiness

their indignation too

provoking that poor baby

to be bitter all life through

the boorishness and unpleasantness

the nastiness displayed

without interruption

into him they weighed

with disrespectful consequence

and even uglier thought

this baby got a pasting

despite how hard he fought
