Bloody ivory trade

Elephants know they can sense it
And they feel the pain of it too
They know the threat
Of the murdering set
And blood and true life
when it’s through

Africa reels at this moment
Those gunning for ivory they
Are paid by the vilest of infidels
Who come in just to blow them away

They do pick up the bones of the vanquished
Toss them about in the dust
Elephants know what we are doing
And view it with so much disgust

Criminals with one intention
To violate elephants who
Roam wild their freedom is obvious
Under a carpet of blue

The sand on the skin of red ochre
the trumpets that sound and that shock
When the men come with guns
They are feeling
Ready and as such they rock

The old skulls picked up and flung skywards
Tossed in the air ever free
Do they remember their partners
And where at their death they can be

Out in the bush risks are rampant
Lions come and go as we know
But the men with Kalashnikov rifles
They are the ones that who can show

It’s all about ivory for them
Or lion bones it’s all about that
Money is the root of all evil the horrible trade
Any cat
Gets such short shrift in all those canned hunts
And the ivory trade well it might
It’s so much like torture to see this
The poachers they all come to fight

The elephants sense what is happening
As shots ring out and the great souls
Fall to the ground crushing what is around
The sheer weight creates the controls

But the elephants know they’re attacking
And charge at them that is their way
Prepping them really for battle
But the bullets they get in the way

They cut up the flesh of the elephants
Tear bloody lumps out until
Blood loss is very apparent
And the ivory then of course will

Be carved off or sawn off like crazy
Tearing the flesh all away
The blood is all over the poachers
Who covered in it have to pay

Ivory China is making
A fool of itself maybe so
Carving it into small trinkets
Taking it out of the flow

And the elephants sooner or later
Will die in a hail
Of bright steel
And fall on their faces
Having been put through their paces
For the scarcity value is real

An elephant never forgets this
The death of its friends in the herd
And will visit and revisit the site of the deaths
No matter when that occurred
