Elephant Killer

Zimbabwe says farewell to another

Elephant

a big bull hit the dust

a while ago

an American called Thigpen

shot him right between the eyes

what an amazing trophy

now on show

an elephant as rare as any elephant

with poachers killing elephants like mad

and ivory so sought after in the far east

for me a poet, it is rather sad

why these men believe they have the where for all

to take out wild game any time they feel

for whatever high, to watch another die

this is not a game it is for real

its final that sweet soul will never walk again

never fly through jungles in the dark

never experience all the joys of morning light

never meet his loved ones in the park

its over with one shot a life is ended

the man from Texas let us  all bow down

lets experience the ingloriousness of his hunting

and lift him up and let him wear his crown

I will not be rude to him as was requested

I will not honour such a man no way

I will not use expletives I will not even think about him

I beg that karma meets him soon half way

for killers of all wild life are an anathema

there is no need, to be, so final they

could be photographed and shared with all and sundry

and left to walk with the freedom of each day
