Where is the compassion we were expected to have when other creatures were put here to share the gifts too

It isn’t only rumours
we are those consumers
we are killing animals
and eating them today
so its us that is the market
we create the need
we tell ourselves without
their flesh
that we cannot succeed

we lie to ourselves everyday
so that animals can be
raised in concentration camps
and eaten merrily
this is what we are doing
this is what we say
we teach our children to
hunt and trap
and eat them anyway

where is our compassion
these are living souls
they are weaker than us of course
but then it tests our roles
should we not be thinking
should we not then say
we must now protect them
not make them with their bodies pay

take the humble chicken
as we chew, on its meat
that was its living body
we are no more discreet
we call for murder and mayhem
we truck them to their death
we do not feed or water them
before we deny them breath

and people
people just like us
make money from it all
producing chickens
producing eggs
producing bodies
the wall
is long and bloodied
by the time
Christmas comes around
when billions of birds are slaughtered
are we this unsound?

don’t we feel their agony
cant we hear their cries
as one man takes a chicken
and strangles it
the lies
we tell ourselves
whilst queueing
to pick up the butterball
or the capon or the ruddy goose
or the turkey
that we haul

back home and we cook it
and we stuff its arse with meat
and we feed it to our children
making the cycle complete
where is our compassion
for those souls that we do share
planet earth every day
are we not aware

as long as we have concentration camps
packed full of souls
who we torture and we murder
we are finished
no amount of goals
will ever be available
all the while we let
every kind of creature
die in the trawlers net

we hunt them for their skin and fur
for furs and leather, we
kill and maim these creatures
not to eat but to wear
we be
so vile and not compassionate
and expect the universe
to protect us from the holocaust
but of course it all gets worse

wars rage every which way
in war we’re told we kill
kill another living human being
we instil
that belief in people
children they die too
grief and anger surfaces
maybe, even with you

where is our compassion
why do we feel the need
to expect another living human being
to succeed
by killing the great animals
like pigs and cows and sheep
murder them in cold blood
and fail to hear them weep

we tell ourselves they have no feelings
we say they do not cry
we let our fellow man do things
to them until they die
hung up drawn and quartered
in immense agony
so we can celebrate at home
with a nice fat rich turkey

where is our compassion
where is it what’s gone wrong
until we save the animals
we clearly don’t belong
in a world of perfection
where every living soul
is happy being itself
in complete control
