I cannot for the life me
imagine why it is
important for so many
universities
to be actively involved
in the invasive surgery
of animal earthlings on their patch
for me it hurts you see

take greyhounds in Australia
and Newcastle where I have been
why injure these beings
to me it is obscene
body stabilising techniques
maintaining blood pressure, to me
and doing it without sedation
its so wrong can’t they see

that animals do suffer so
they are sentient after all
and personnel in some laboratory
why the hell do they haul
greyhounds onto the table
and cut them up at will
to me its so unnecessary
no animal blood should they spill

greyhounds are mistreated
made to run for sport
for gambling for human pleasure
no one gives a thought
to how they feel
and whether they want to chase some rag
and then to cut them open
raises my red flag
