sadists in charge of cats

The sadism that seems to rise out of the ashes
where
in Greece the daily bulletins
come over with despair
for anyone who reads them
the animals appear
to be at risk from all and sundry
and apparently that’s clear

since the financial crisis
much appears to me
to have gone wrong
it seems compassion
has diminished rapidly
those cats and dogs
are suffering
out there on the street
as morons appear surfacing
and are anything but discreet

all sorts of savage incidences
happening every day
with so many gory outcomes
for some reason they pay
a high price just for being there
they suffer pain and woe
and torture, its despicable
as many of us know

but why would all this happen
do some begrudge them life
or do they detest their freedom
or are they, in their own strife
are they taking it out on animals
why would it happen so
are people degenerating?
you know I’d like to know

is this what happens to some folk
when they lose their rights to be
do they go out and look for victims
is this now what we see
or are there just more sadists
in Greece alas today
who want to take it out on animals
who want to make them pay

if this is the case, then its frightening
that the human being can
rapidly lose their humane side
I mean now does this scan
do we so degenerate and if we do
oh dear
clearly the streets around about
are breeding so much fear

into the hearts of the animal strays
for there is not much hope and they
will be picked up by someone and throttled so to say
today we heard of a white cat
who someone found and she
had her neck bound up in quite thick wire
and was in agony

it had cut into her throat
and become infected and thus quite bad
the person who had found the cat
clearly was very sad
to see her feeling so much pain
and tried hard to be kind
and give the cat some confidence
but clearly she’d lost her mind

finally she was rescued and came of her own accord
was fed and taken to a vet
a most timely reward
but really it is awful
that we as humans do
descend into the darkness
which tragically is true
