Foie Gras and Fortnum and Mason

Despite the obvious distress caused
to the ducks and geese
we see
gavage still practised for the last 15 days
and we
realise force feeding is a cruel
and ugly way
of feeding birds to fatten them up
and really make them pay

a pipe thrust down their throat
and corn pumped in
4 times a day
this is disingenuous
in every single way
its roughly done
and hurts their throats
it makes them very sore
and to do this, repeatedly
no one should ignore

the birds cry out in agony
their esophagus inflamed
steatosis of the liver
gavage of course is blamed
the liver swells at least 10 times
the normal size and thus
it presses against the rib cage
and it causes a fuss

and inhibits, the breathing
its uncomfortable at least
manhandled by some wretched troll
who delivers their feast
a great ball of corn thrust down
every single soul
and that’s about the limit
that’s how they control

and with an inflamed esophagus
and they are sick as well
their liver is now well diseased
and fatty its just hell
standing in a tiny crate
for almost 3 weeks they
many of them die before
the knife goes in okay

its terrible its torture
there are no words to say
but only foie gras that comes from France
is treated in this way
and Fortnum and Mason’s foie gras
originates from there
but despite their clever wording
its still not very fair

its not called fatty goose liver
nor ethical foie gras
nor humane in the title
clearly therefore they are
selling the gavage process
force fed so horribly
and so it is misleading
really now to see

it saying in this shop
that really influential souls
are drawn there in their hundreds
by royal command such goals
laid down in previous centuries
but surely all agree
this is a high class retailer
with the royalty

8 types of foie gras
on their books
it does appear to me
they even have foie gras en croute
at pounds yes 320
a vast expense but disregard
for the production methods used
clearly these birds are badly treated
and terribly abused

and their resultant liver
is a processor induced disease
it gave them such a savage time
their agony if you please
cannot be forgotten
and it should never be
allowed to happen
in this day and age
if you ask me

despite a lot of protest
petitions and some more
lots of direct action
from Peta outside their store
they have just ignored it all
and basically said up yours
its been banned in Israel and Turkey
more old scores
you cannot manufacture it
in the UK no
but you can buy and sell it
and put it out on show

so clearly its quite awful
if the UK won’t allow
people here to make it
its factor isn’t wow
but Fortnum and Mason can sell it
and sell it all the time
8 different types now on their shelves
they just watch their profits climb

ethics torture doesn’t seem to matter
to them, they
carry on in their own time
in their own sweet way
ignoring all the calls to end
this evil saying they
have sourced their foie gras with welfare
standard that are high, anyway

so its up to all the rich toffs
who frequent this big store
to tell them right into their face
that they wont come back no more
all the while they are flogging
this cruelty and pain
and refuse to listen to the cries
which are seemingly in vain
