Don’t believe a word they tell you

Don’t believe a word they tell you
the percentages by weight
equate to 80 to 100 tons
of chemicals
irate
I feel to think of all the benzene
and children still around
the toluene and ethanol
thats now there in the ground
so much of it carcinogenic
its not the place to be
now, lots of pollution
and are we now as free?

we believed the frackers
and Cameron as well
it was going to save our bacon
but of course its hell
we’ve brought it down upon us
or pulled it from the shale
phthalates BTEX, Iodine, Barium
its a sorry tale

The frackers were our great friends
they had the big idea
they were going to orchestrate
the music in our ear
how gas prices were falling
the comedy was clear
their errors were the terrors
and with them came the fear

ground water and air quality
we just, took it for granted
noise pollution how was that
somehow it was planted
inside all our psyche
migration of gas no way!
waste was all mishandled
cancers made us pay

greenhouse gas was massive
much much worse than coal
they stole, so much water
there was no control
arsenic, barium, glycol
manganese, phenol
sodium was present too
once this place had soul

but now we look around here
the trees were once so green
the fields were once so yellow
and the sky had really been
the palest of the blues but we
now look around and see
we’re frackingly well fracked
and this is the end of me

I tried to tell them many times
I spoke, I wrote, I cried
nobody was listening
to what came out from inside
nobody believed me
the politicians, they
were getting and were giving
when night of course was day

I care I do I fucking care
money is worthless now
the house nobody wants it
the fields there’s not one cow
munching on the fresh green grass
because its just not there
even the little birds have flown
out of this foul air

sludge comes out the taps now
the trucks are everywhere
day and night they rumble
it clearly drives us spare
this was once a wondrous place
a countryside so great
but now its just a shit hole
in a fracking state
