Tell the lamb why it must die

Its incredibly cute
and its innocence does
conjure up joy
and Spring’s loving buzz
the playfulness
a ballerina of sorts
who sprang into life
with the purest of thoughts
a new woolly suit
a remarkable sight
clearly loves they love the amazing sunlight
the taste of the fresh grass
and the milk of mama
the lamb the new flush
in the fields a pure star

why then she does ask
do you wish to kill me
I am young I love life
so why must I be
put on the transporter
going to Hell
to the big slaughterhouse
where Death I can smell

its because you love Lamb
the tenderest meat
with mint sauce and potatoes
I look a treat
Do I ?
I’m far better off
in the field
where my carpet is grass
and where in I am concealed

Tell me, Mrs Human
why you allow
me to be killed and cooked
tell me how
you are that heartless
and you would now buy
a cutlet of me
I wish to know why

I am a baby
no experience yet
I have so much to learn
I am still wet
behind the ears and I am ready
to go on my way
not die in the arms
of those who you pay

to slit my young throat
and let my blood flow
then slice me into
with an almighty blow
where is your heart
where is your soul
why do you eat babies
who still have to grow

Yes I am cute
and innocent too
you sorry you
are ugly to do
what your doing to us
we are babies and we
need to live not be
slaughtered for somebody’s tea
