Animals tests banned for cosmetics in India

India has come to its decision
to obliterate the dogma of its past
to instigate a system of removal
of animal experimentation
which had cast
an awfully dark cloud
across the spectrum
of testing its cosmetics
on those who
would never ever use them
it was thought thus to abuse them
was a reasonable solution
it is true

and for decades we have known
of this vile torment
that carried on the pain
both day and night
exploitation of the voiceless
for a corporate conclusion
which in essence was allowed
but wasn’t right
the masses used the perfumes and overlooked
those voiceless one’s
frightened in our cages
by the daily tests, and they
perished in their millions
many in discomfort
and that agonising withdrawal
of trust
that many had felt up to then
and was replaced with such disgust
it didn’t help allergic reactions
anyway
an added cost apparent
which someone had to pay
the animals were tortured
but few seemed bound to care
and so it has for countless times
nobody was aware

and then it dawned on some
at least, the cruelty and sin
the violence and the hatred
the excuses had worn thin
and a movement grew in consciousness
to try and keep those who
were helpless and were
voiceless knowing not what they
could do
airlines got involved in shipping
primates to their death
it was another tragedy exchanging
cash for breath
calling live souls cargo like slaves
of years before
humility was lost it seems
in all that blood and gore

Now India’s vast continent of guru’s and
the like
the spiritual a mainstay
of the curry and the bike
with all its faults had risen
and had seen the folly and
had felt the wreath of evil
and begun to understand
how outmoded how unfair
and an unholy sense
of terror and of torment
that had proved to be so tense
the outcomes never proven
the agony therefore
was wrong in every detail
the data was too raw

so India has stepped up to its
parapet and said
the voiceless one’s
will not now die
and the system is now dead
cosmetics and the like
will not be tested any more
on the innocent
or the voiceless
and I for one am sure
humility is bounded when the joyous
can rejoice
when the earthlings
get their lives back
and the voiceless
get the choice

to live free of this oppression
