Its true so many eat the
flesh of noble beasts
who truly cared
who lived short lives
sad lives at best
and died in agony
they shared
being born an animal
who people chose to eat
to cut up into pieces
pack in pristine trays
so far removed from actuality
ofcourse it pays
to recall the actual earthling
that gentle earthling, who
was butchered hung and drawn
someone like you
could roast its flesh with carrots
and a bread sauce yes perhaps
this poor soul wanted so much
to live
to feel the slaps
of caring on its buttocks
even the electric prod
just a little further time
to taste the fresh wet sod
and now somewhere in China
a dog stuck in some sack
is being beaten on the floor
the poor souls taking flack
one wonders what goes on inside the butchers
heart and why
he feels the need to do this
when my need is to cry
that dog must be beside himself
being beaten so
those cows caught in the slaughterhouse
right now
in their own flow
in their own blood they drowned poor things
washed down cleaned up they
are cut in perfect bits and placed
on some pristine tray
so children can soon gorge themselves
with oven chips and peas
gobble all that abject fear
and finish their meal with cheese
and biscuits
made from milk, of course
stolen from the calf
an innocent born recently
who didn’t live a half
a week
poor soul was slaughtered
hung up like his mum
his throat was torn a’sunder
his blood pounded like a drum
on the white tiled mezzanine
his sinews and his guts
pulverized I’m sorry
as the slaughterhouse gate shuts
I sink down on my knees
and cry my heart out for tonight
I feel so much for those animals
who lost their power of light
they didn’t want to die
their voices and they eyes
appealed to all humanity
I won’t listen to the lies
that many tell about them
they were noble they were calm
they were loving they were hopeful
hopeful that the farm
they lived at would have loved them
would have cherished them but they
were sacrificed for profit
for that is of course the way
The dog succumbs
its tragic life
was thrown out on the street
collected by the bin men
and now of course a fleet
of vans piled high with canines
of every sort and breed
will be dispatched to the rainbow bridge
so the Chinese now can feed
on their white flesh crawling with fear
boiled up with noodles
I can hear
the yelping and the barking too
as waste is discharged in the loo
its lives created at a cost
brutally murdered so much lost
in every facet of what we see
all this dire depravity
