Live exports from the perspective of the earthling

Live exports are an anathema
to many, for we see
sentient beings shipped around
by trailer and by sea
we know the stress that’s caused to us
when understanding does
accompany these journeys
but imagine how the buzz
of change and unseen stresses do
play havoc with the animals
who take a different view

of really what is happening
new noises, outlook and
no real chance to relax at all
and try to understand
manhandling at shipment
demonstratively, they do
show their inner most feelings
and honestly may rue
the day it ever happened
the inner stresses may
create in the unsuspecting
a kind of different way

in which things manifest in them
a tedium and a will
to cope with what’s on offer
as emotions kind of spill
out across the others
which can spread like
wild fire through
the majority, it spooks them
for they know not what to do

panic, fright an insatiable desire
to escape what is
the constraints that present
themselves as dire
it spreads
its a contagion
the angst of what is new
and fright can create mayhem
in their inner working too

and then of course arrival
some hauled into the air
and swung about
this torture
can lead to much despair
the ride then to the
slaughterhouse or perhaps
even a car
thrown in the boot
the separation and the journey, far

the violence and the different smells
imagine it, will you?
live exports have that woeful side
that steady build up too
what is a violent ending, shocked, and made to be
murdered by some foreigner
and then, well, swinging free
blood loss
all that agony
those vicious violent sounds
spluttering
hearts fluttering
in our own blood which drowns

the life force
the emotion
the circumstance
the woe
live exports
are an anathema
which many feel must go
