Foie Gras (fatty diseased liver)

Ducks live in the water
that’s why they have webbed feet
but the ducks they use for Foie Gras
their special thoughtful treat
is standing in a tiny cage
not able to sit down
just imprisoned there
on wire floors
for their feet

and for 3 long weeks
are force fed 3 times every day
a metal tube rammed
down the throats
slaves
yes
right away

their throats
so sore
they get bloody
their livers
swell 10 times the size
and that isn’t all
the poor birds
are then set upon
a knife plunged into their throat
and many do not peg out then
despite all that I’ve wrote

what we do to the innocent
gavage is sinful stuff
and that Fortnum and Mason still sell it
well I’ve really had enough
they know only too well
how bad it is
the torture exacted upon
living souls for profit
its like this all along
