Anna was a horse
4 legs and swishing tail
Anna she was sentient
she cared
she didn’t fail
to respond
when she was given
carrots
a sugar lump or two
Anna was a horse
who loved life
there that was the view
she lived in Greece
of all places
and everybody knows
the bankster’s and the
financial heads
write their share of prose
they fiddled with the nations funds
but somehow get away
from sleeping in a prison cell
where not even a ray
of sunlight hits their
selfish selves
but the country goes to pot
the people and the animals
who cares if they rot
the world outside tells stories
nobody does know
and the animal earthlings suffer
oh! they suffer so
excuses people have them
to be cruel and so unkind
to brand them as not sentient
and how they are a bind
and costly to have around the place
when funds are at a low
so easy to get shot of them
to up some mountain go
so Anna she was taken
by some squib with a chain
who fixed her on the mountain top
despite the inner pain
she felt just being left there
but the guy he didn’t care
he didn’t even turn to look
he wasn’t that aware
she stood up there for ages
missing the place where she
lived her little stable
the place she liked to be
the clover in the hedgerows
the sunlight through the trees
the fresh grass in the meadow
and all the mysteries
surrounding her incarnation
and to be up here alone
it just was not the thing to do
inside her heart did moan
the wind blew cold
the icy breath made her feel forlorn
really she was sad
and wondered why she had been born
and so she pulled and pulled that chain
against her flesh she tried
to get away and go back to play
she wouldn’t be denied
she longed to see the sunlight
dapple on the trees
she longed to taste the soft wet grass
and see the red berries
she pulled and pulled
and suddenly yes yes she was free
but she had pulled her foot off too
and was in agony
she neighed out loud
she laid down feeling sorry feeling sad
and was rescued by some lovely soul
and is now well not so bad

this is a brave and true story of the resoluteness
of a 20 years old horse left chained up a mountain to die
by a human being who had lost his heart
in the gutter somewhere
