The tragic story of the life of “Borko” a terrier

The story of “Borko”
brings tears to one’s eyes
and pain to our hearts
when we do realise
as a baby his owner
beat him so hard
that his young spine was broken
and his whole life was scarred

a Bulgarian Doctor
a kindly young man
adopted sweet “Borko”
and his new life began
In Bulgaria clearly
they live in the past
animal lovers
are tragically cast

into oblivion
for its believed
that they are the lowest of low
most aggrieved
that money is wasted on them
when it could be
spent on poor humans
and so they agree

they won’t realise
what animals do
think, or feel
they do not share
that new view
still in the dark days
numb to such things
a kind of sick savagery
and all that brings

unable to see
the goodness out there
their consciousness still
in the darkness somewhere
and now towards
this really outstanding man
in their street
vilify him
its seems its their plan

and nothings discreet
they ostracise him
for his meagre concern
they are inveterate’s
and cannot discern
deep seated prejudice
as we now learn
the Govt they too
lost in the mist
not willing really
to kind of assist

he could lose his home
to the ignorant spree
and “Borko” could once again
find purgatory
the life of this soul
has seen such torrid days
from his first owner
to societies gaze
a story of sadness
a story of Pain
and what of the doctor
is he to gain

a foothold
his house
or will he be thrown
on the scrapheap of life
that he never had known
will he be able to
keep “Borko” and
at some stage
encourage the people
to understand
