The Delta Pack/ Wood Buffalo Park/ 5 times the size of Yellowstone from COLD WARRIORS

For thousands of years
wolves have
roamed this earth
out in the wilds
they strove
and their worth
immense
their intelligence WAS marvellous
too
they can sense
many things
which humans can’t do

The Delta Pack
led by a great pair of souls
able to lead
for a leader controls
guides, teaches, mentors
is practical too
can bring down a buffalo
and knows a thing, or two

can run in a storm
and can swim very far
can howl with such form
and know’s life for sure
can outstay most animals
he is the one
the Neo of wolves
the boy in the sun

up against buffalo
20 times lighter
but able to prove
he is a great fighter
he’ll run like the devil
and bite like as if
it was his last bite
or it was his first tiff

up against all those muscles
and a head like a plough
the wolf rarely gives up
he’s patient and how
he will come from behind
and scatter a herd
wound one, and sit back
to await the first bird

he is, up against it
when seasons do break
the Tar sands are growing
his share of his cake
is fast running over
however remote
the chimneys and pipelines
all get in one’s throat.

the wonderful trees
were torn down and laid
waste and the tar sands
and not one blade
of grass was left growing
a wasteland now lies
with its massive machines
and its terrible eyes

scorching the tundra
spoiling the air
blowing the chemicals
now everywhere
poisoning streams
killing us all
encroaching on wildness
and it does appal

the wolves will be howling
for centuries more
but not if these tar sands
increase any more
keystone has just got the go ahead and
will run all that filth
underneath the fine land
The Delta Pack knows not
but still knows so much
and clearly their children
are really in touch
