The 8 hour Rule

A maximum of 8 hours
for the transportation times
from farm through to the slaughterhouse
across Europe, the climbs
up mountain and through tunnels
must stress the livestock so
and it was hoped they might be killed
more locally you know
the flow would then be reefer boxes
containing meat instead
of those poor living earthlings
some as good as dead
packed into these trailers
tightly may be so
each one rubbing against the sides
tillg bruising starts to show
smaller pigs gets crushed of course
and buy the time that they
arrive at destination
what can people say

they are tired and very nervous
shattered one might feel
and then their hoisted on the chains
and their throats are cut for real
it must be really rotten
the trauma of it all
but now the 8 hours maximum is in place
the long haul
is now reduced a little bit
but 8 hours on your feet
and tossed about on European roads
life s far from sweet
