Imagine what it must be like
at the moment sleeping rough
the frost is bitter
and the wind chill is really tough
today I drove through Ashridge
star spangled everywhere
postcard stuff to look at
but truly what despair
if you happen to be out in it
sleeping in the park
or even in the cemetery
going after dark
in some draughty doorway
where you then bed down
frozen like a lolly
in a cupboard out of town
camped out in the forest
like the wild deer, who
don’t know what its like
to feel some warmth
it shatters you
Imagine under your duvet
it all feels nice and warm
but outside in a blizzard
in a hellish storm
its hell on earth
for those who do
and empty stomachs tend
to make you feel so very cold
and hopeful that your end
possibly comes fast
the homeless tribes
oh! how they dare
no where to wash
no where to stay
no where to eat
or share
and someone steals
your boots
if sleep takes you away
its a jungle on the streets
for everywhere you pay
nobody will take you in
and there’s no where to go
may be the Waitrose dustbin
at least there is no snow
Write to your local councils
and advise them
that the poor
are freezing on the streets
right now
which I do know for sure
we are not a third world country
but our homeless feel the cold
they need some soup and bread
and somewhere dry
so I am told
