Ambosell Elephants

The birth of baby elephants
heralds a new dawn
for so many souls are dying
their ivory
is torn
and hacked then off their bodies
by the ruffians who come
who shoot our babies in cold blood
and bang the loudest drum

we must hope, that there are people
who will nurture them and see
they grow up to be parents too
cherished constantly
we have to hope
that Ivory is passed its sell by date
it comes with so much agony
and actually isn’t great

we have to put this out to people
all around the world
tusks are what an elephant uses
and they’re curled
upwards tools not materials
to carve into some thing
which costs not only an arm and leg
but a life too
and does bring

terror down upon the land
when these rough necks
strike a herd
The Elephant should be sacred
for in essence its absurd
to see these huge amazing souls
slaughtered as they are
its poignant and its terrible
now let us see the star

A tiny little baby
perfect in every way
Who has to be protected
for ever and a day
