A little monkey peering out through the bars

Chain me up forever
put me in a cage
feed me rotten fruits each day
and leave me for an age
look into my eyes dear friend
feel my misery
the tears I cry
inside my heart
that fall incessantly
I have a little heart
that wants
to love and be loved by
someone who can see me
in a bright light from the sky
I feel so very sad of course
in this cage
behind bars
imagining that I will
fade away beyond the stars
and nobody will love me
will hold me
never again
I can only hold these rusty bars
a sad refrain
I hear each moment
in my head today
is how my heart is bleeding
how I’ve had to pay
you, out there
I was hoping
you’d take me in your arms
and let me feel your heart beat
and warm to your sweet charms
