The Rabbit at the roadside
waving
us goodnight
we picked him out tonight
we did
in my car spotlight
surround him
with a triangle of green
and hope that he
gets back in the bushes
and does it now safely
foraging so close to a main road
is Rabbitcide
he has to realise that blokes in cars
can’t be relied
upon to drive more carefully
or stop along the way
for road kill is forever
forever and a day
