Why I write in this vein

Spenser wrote from Smithfield
he wrote the Faery Queen
which inspired Keats to appreciate
there was more to life
the scene,
than he’d written of in London
was befitting all but he
wanted to escape into a
world of fantasy
and Spenser’s craft excited him
and the ethereal for me
it takes me from the Animals Rights
to my world of Fantasy.
Keats and Spenser I adore them
and Eliza Cook
and Mrs Hemans and Charles Lamb
I dabble and I look
Thomas Hardy, Walter de la Mare all
make me feel
that poetry is wonderful
and really so surreal
