The Olympic Spirit

The Olympian’s were here
and soon will be on
their separate ways
back to where they came from
with their medals
and their praise
the adrenaline
the competiveness
that had been honed
night and day
in the lonely fields
and the deserts
many far away
mile after mile
of training
exemplars in their field
running against their
respective clocks
their efforts just
to yield
a championship and energy
a class act and a way
to be the best that
they could be
on any chosen day
their build up
over 4 years
was to practice
night and day
each would sacrifice a lot
each would have to pay
each would strive to
put themselves
on a pedestal, and know
that when called upon
to run the race, or putt
the shot, the show
would be worth
the extra effort
the where for all
would be
ready for whatever
each would have the key
so they came
in their thousands
from countries far and wide
they descended on old London
whose people felt denied
double dip recessions
and Banksters on the prowl
many people ready
to throw in their towel
but the, transformation
of Stratford in the East
its standing raised considerably
twas now part of the feast
solidified in venues
a legacy for all
bricks and mortar
the aorta
seemingly on call
everywhere deemed ready
for the Olympic flame
for the array of officials
and the competitors by name
the volunteers
and the stars came out
to welcome them
it all kicked off
well just 10 days ago
in a great
extravaganza at the
opening
all the hoo har
as we know
that over
wall to wall TV
every sport was shown
Technology
brought it to be
competitors were thrown
together
all their training
their spirit and
their soul
ready to now be
released
pitted, the control
the effort
was astounding
each one rose to the test
each one climbed their
Everest
each one gave of their best
and many became winners
the iconic medal set
a fulfilment of the wisdom
and the planning
and the debt
paid by them
to the spirit
to the winning
to the way
and now we reach the final
actually,the last day
Sunday
Yes the end is near
the excitment
of it all
demands that we
the crowds
that shouted
long and hard
from what was
adversity
that spent
their hard earned
salaries
or that camped out in the park
and watched it all on
giant screens
and screamed till after dark
this fillip
this hysteria
for those, the chosen few
the medal winners
who inspired
as champions
tend to do
each other
and youths watching
fired up
by it all
challenged by the
records
that clearly had to fall
the stars emerged
regardless
they prepared to be
the best
their test was over
they enter History
tonight another
spectacle
to close the great event
an outpouring
of many
and of money
thats been spent
for now it must be paid for
in our taxes and our rates
as to the lasting legacy
the population
waits.
