More on Seals and the markets that support the killings

Its started, the men
with sticks are here
smelling like they haven’t
washed for a year
hair uncombed, face
unshaven
vagabonds are they
greasy, dirty, dishevelled
goons
all here to make our day

slouching on the sands
the weather cold
the wind does stray
the sky is full
of thunder
and out across
the bay
sea horses froth
and tumble
and we the Seals of Nam
sit here waiting
for the sticks
that convert our brains
to jam

Its been a really awful week
just waiting for the Ombudsman
to come up with his long report
on whether its okay
For Namibia to slaughter us
to violate us so
and steal our skin
to bloody win
the battle and then go

They call this place our sanctuary
a place of peace and quiet
where seals can live in harmony
and all the world is bright
what tears, what deceit there is
Tourists do believe
that what they see is kosher
of course where many grieve
they do to see
those faces,those tears
those heart breaks No!
they pay their dollar
take their pictures
and then of course just go

and then when its all
quiet the killing
spree does grow
the trophy seals
we hear the squeals
as the so called hunters
throw
caution to the wind $5000 or so they
pay to
the so called agent
and they shoot a seal a day

Then the cull for Science
and our bodies straight to Hell
To Australia or God knows where
In containers, of despair
thousands of us dying
that’s what I’ve heard tell
Namibia believes
to push extinction
for the money it achieves
But why I ask
We’re dying,
Bulls and Mums and me
its the end of seals it seems
and it just shouldn’t be.
On Facebook and on Twitter
the gals and boys do try
poems tweets and essays
and petitions, oh! I sigh
many many people are trying
now to save
the Seals of Nam
and of everywhere
although of course its grave
For somewhere there’s a market
ignorant humans seem
to pay a bloody fortune
for our skins now it does seem
Despite the PETA adverts
despite all some folk do
still these hags go out and buy
a thick fur coat or two
to just hang in some wardrobe
with mothballs that do stink
or they keep them in some
chilled fur store
with their favourite Fox or Mink.
