Some thoughts on why One man’s meat is another man’s poison

Dog meat has been eaten
for several thousand years
in China and Korea,
it’s what they do
The West eats piglets,
little lambs, and baby cows
and little baby chickens
so a clue
Some people have been
getting high and mighty
pointing fingers at the Chinese, they
Must understand
each to his own culture
If that is why they eat it,
its okay

We perhaps should go off to the slaughterhouse
Or some of the illegal places where
they just, don’t eat dogs
But they steal them from young kids
And mince them up,
in hot dogs for some fair
Some low life Butchers
do all sorts of crappy things
To earn a crust
may be a rat or two
scrapings off the block,
sawdust off the floor
Will guarantee a day off work
and maybe even more.

Cats were often used
in Chinese Restaurants
One closed down
in Berkhamsted yes where they
Had paid some local lads
to steal the moggies
And made them into
curried Take away
So culture and sub-culture
sees a lot of stuff
Going on and we must take a view
Realise and get to grips
with what some people eat
And try to understand
that’s what they do

The way so many Animals
are treated before slaughter
We do need ofcourse to regulate
What is right, and what is wrong
Whats been going on a long
Time in different places might
give grounds to derogate
responsiblity, to some religion
personally as a vegan I believe
Animals are integrally a part of
all creation
and have the right of life
and should achieve
Their time on earth as devised
by their creator
Which clearly isn’t what we are seeing
here
Factory Farming methods are reducing
their lifespan ,and creating concentration
Camps of fear

Bush meat is another
practice from abroad
endangered primates
often for the pot
Exotic meats are advertised
by restaurants
Tiger Steaks and Crocodile,
a lot
of species like the Buffalo
and Ostrich come to mind
Consideration of why people
want to try and find
All these different animals
and think they have the right
To butcher them and kill them
mostly out of sight

In China Dogs are sold
in the street markets
and that is where
some butcher them to eat
They slaughter them,
They process them,
and cook them
and all of this takes place
upon the street

Some Foreigners
get very upset about this
forgetting that as carnivores
their treat
Is probably being
very badly butchered too
Its just done out of sight
and more discreet
The victims don’t believe
their deaths are any less obnoxious
A fact not lost on them those eating meat

It maybe as more dogs are kept as pets

that less are sold and eaten, who can say
Whether dogs or cats are eaten

or whether hogs and lambs are eaten,

its truly what the customer can pay
Whatever price if that is what they are used to
In China, Dogs and Cats are eaten, they
May have been eaten here too surreptiously
but not so in your face I have to say

Possibly with time the Chinese Traders
in dog meat will stop doing it abroad, possibly the practice
will go underground
and those that want to indulge they will afford
The vegan culture clearly
has made headway
But I do believe that each
must feel the need
As countries take democracy
into their hearts and minds
Apparently with meat they feel the need

As time passes
more enlightenment may happen
And with less food
and so many mouths to feed
Veganism just may be the saviour
But by that time
I’ll be compost for the seed
