“Lottie”

Seing her for the first time
Ones heart missed several beats
The condition was extraordinary
Extremes clearly unseats
The logic and the feeling
Of any caring soul
To see a dog in such distress
With mange out of control

Not an inch of hair was left
Just chafed and violent skin
Red raw just imagine the pain
Yes from within
And so she ran away from us
Even the angels she
Couldnt trust to help her
Based on her history

Neglect had been the key word
Humans of a kind
Who see her walking in the street
And might as well be blind
For they pass her by
An ailing case
And leave her well alone
And so this dear sweet lady
Was always on her own

We found her and we followed her
For about an hour
Clearly she was suffering
Somehow she did empower
What strength she had
To reason those following
Might harm
Historically the neglect
Was raised when she wanted the calm

Picking her up her weight was low
A mass of skin and bone
Its hard to imagine a soul inside
How could she have known
The mange the parasitic quest
To eat into her soul
To strip her skin of every hair
To simply gain control

Chafed and bleeding maggoty
Infection all the way
She was close to dying
And many now would say
Let her go but angels see
Further than their nose
They wanted her to regain a life
And of course they chose

To love her and to give her
Their time in all of this
12 whole weeks of medicated baths
Ending in bliss
Still the skin was red to pink
But no where was it sore
It was healing beautifully
Like perhaps not before

She still looked rather doleful
She had been through a lot
Joylessness and a sinking heart
If that is all you have got
Its hard to keep ones pecker up
But “lottie” we could see
Was feeling there was progress
And that really she might be

Coming really out of the woods
Out into the light
Three months later
Our constancy
Clearly proved us right
Her pain had turned to play
Our kisses won her time
She loved her tummy rubbed
And you should see her climb

Over the adversity the dispiritedness
She had felt
Depression had befallen her
About the cards that were dealt
But she was feeling better
She twinkled and she scored
She loved the new life obviously
For she was never bored

We loved her and we cuddled her
An ephoria set in
She was so happy to see us
And now she wasnt thin
She was a pretty lady
Affectionate as well
Heaven was now her routine
When you think she came from HELL.
