Captive Lions

The predicament they are facing
In historic terms must be
The most serious threat to the jungle king
Then most around can see
Their freedom at an all time low
Their paradise is gone
And man unkind is on their trail
And their blood is now upon

So many new hands tragically
For the market place is wide
Zoos and circus and exotic pets
And then the eventual slide
Down into the purgatory
That many ignorantly
Brush over in their look at lions
The canned hunting infamy

The trophy hunting monsters
The rich who want some game
The head the paws as trophies
Remember Cecil the same
And onto Chinese Medicine
The Lions body parts
And the criminal side of trafficking
Of those minus their hearts

Shipping bones to Thailand
And calling them Tiger cake
Black market sales are rising
Even though they are fake
In the lower echelons
At the gutter level they
Dupe and falsify shipments
There is no honour
There today

All we know is Lions are
Truthfully suffering
And then there is home grown
Terror and we must
Realise there is nothing
They won’t stoop to
Methods that will
Thoroughly disgust
The witch doctors and their black magic
Rituals
And bushmeat these reminders of the past
Not helped by those canned hunting crimes
Of feeding lions to locals
They have a taste for Lion meat
Its the sign, of the times

But my take on this business
Its all a pack of rotten lies
Right down deep its profit
And we have to realise
There is now a vast margin
Between the cost of captive Lions
To the eventual final sale
Which for me is no surprise

Markets have developed
Criminality
Is rife now out in Africa
Total improbity
They are heartless
They are soulless
No conscience at all
Detached from all
That once was good
When the double dealers call

Those white lions killed
Last Friday
Their heads removed and left
Also their paws were severed
Those poor souls left bereft
Of all their vital beauty
For the witch doctors we hear
For the voodoo and black magic
Practiced far and near

And then of course the bush meat trade
And again canned hunting firms
Who make excuses on hunting grounds
That locals come to terms
With hunting in enclosures
For the meat thats donated free
Maintaining a taste for lion meat
Which again should never be

Its of catastrophic proportions
The increasing market share
Attributed to captive Lions
Now sold everywhere
And everyone makes a killing
From the so called farms who rear
Through petting and captivity
To what is black market fear

At this rate Lions in Africa
Have a terrible chance to shine
The Kings are being slaughtered
And so many now dine
On almost every aspect of
Criminality
From the corrupt officials
And what is depravity

Those white Lions
An example
Of the wretched state of affairs
Poachers clearly earning
With judgement that impairs
Any soul who is willing
To earn some extra cash
To go and buy and slaughter them
And treat them like so much trash

It breaks the hearts of many
Who work to save them all
The wild ones and the captive ones
Their great roar is our call
To arms to try to honour them
For their place in history
Is fast becoming the way it is
The new reality

Anybody’s victim
Left in the bush alone
Heads cut off
Paws cut off
The seeds of evil sown
The great kings of the jungle
Lost souls yes they are
The guilty earning vast amounts
And an ever growing scar

That punishes all of Africa
For the corruption that is rife
So toothless are the law makers
Adding to their strife
Officialdom stands guilty too
As many look the other way
And lions and Rhinos and Elephants
Are slaughtered nearly every day

The invincible is possible
So witch doctors say
Eating animal parts and human parts
Really will delay
The onset of debilitating illness
And so of course
Captive Lions have merit
And are a driving force

The farm attacks on whites
Is said to be because of this
The evilness of witchcraft
A euphoric state of bliss
Creates the ugly savagery
And President Zuma too
Is said to dabble in this regard
Though I don’t know if that is true

The criminals who poisoned and killed the white Lions
Have been caught it seems and the case continues
