Bird talk

We birds can see can hear
Can speak
We do have to be keen
To recognise who feeds us
And those that are rather mean
When danger is approaching
We have to communicate
We use birds words
we do
In a world of human beings
Nothing is more true

Some feed us and we are grateful
The corvids tells us, they
Share the souls who care about us
We know every day
Pigeons have a bad press
Starlings do as well
Those town dwellers are apparently
Thought to come from Hell

Some of us a songsters
Some of us we are sure
All of us have our own ways
Seeing we adore
Those of you who buy us seeds
And fat balls it is true
We love you we appreciate
All the things you do

The corvidae are noisy
They fly about in packs
But they are very generous
Very few attacks
On us the tiny feathered ones
We can get by too
Lots of trees and bushes
And hedgerows where we do

Live and just feel happy
Water we need of course
Ponds and pools and streams and puddles
Ofcourse they are a source
But those of you
Who leave the water out for us
We know
Warm water when it’s very cold
Really helps us glow

Town stars have more problems
And sea sides the sea birds
But all get by now which is why
Most are lost for words
To fly from place to place
And to catch insects in the air
To roost to look in windows
Hoping you are there
