Captivity lost

Tentatively sliding down
The ramp to freedom where
an open space
And a Joyous place
Are waiting for them there
2 pigs saved from the slaughterhouse
Imagine that can you
Can you really imagine that
I mean what would you do

Expecting those big doors to open
And to hear those screams of pain
To smell the breath of the dying
And the gurgles from the drain
And instead a wondrous moment
You see the open sky
And a field to go and play in
Is this before you die

Or is this home, a new home for you
A sanctuary where
The threat of being murdered
Of thinking of despair
Is not a thought you will ever have to have
Ever again
You are one of the chosen ones
Who can actually feel the rain

And the sunlight on their dried old backs
Scarred and cut about
Beaten by the handlers
Who really had no doubt
You were there to feel their wrath
To be kicked about at will
Thats what you were put here for
And its a bitter pill

But seemingly the angels
Have come and put you here
You are saved forever
That is very clear

And in a cardboard box
Lined with newspapers of the day
A half a dozen chickens
Suddenly start to play
Were they expecting slaughter
The revolving blade and more
The scalding tanks the de featherer
Could they now ignore

Those thoughts and feel the sunshine
On their speckled backs
They stretch their wings
And their heart sings
Till now their body lacks
Minerals a plenty
But now the sun and the rain
And the love and joy thats promised
Its everything for gain

Watch them leap and flap about
Blessedness they feel
They look exhilarated
And starry-eyed and real

And then the calves
My goodness straight out of the shed
Romping just like good ones
They seemed to be well fed
They too can see the blue sky
And the trees up yonder they
Are clearly really on a high
You could say they are blown away

Its really very haunting to see
Animals enjoy
A day out of their lives
When humans do employ
Some harmony and abundance
And in return we see delight
Two calves spared the terror
And look at them in flight

And then the ducks those webbed feet
Straight away they know
They are mean’t for the water
To swim and they soon show
Us all they have not forgot this
They plunge into the pool
They are at home immediately
Clearly they think its cool

Freedom, giving back to them
The favours of those who are
Living where creation put them
In each place they star
Their watery gratification
Their enchanted gladsome glide
This is their fulfilment
Which they feel from deep inside

The millions of sad young animals
Who meet their maker and
Who die in terrible agony
How can they understand

And these few somehow have been chosen
To live in light and joy
To do their thing and clearly bring
Much to those who employ
Their time and efforts loving them
A partnership of dreams
Just look at their ebullience
I could just write reams

But save to say
Each one of them
Will realise that they
Have been picked out by karma
Perhaps and thus will find their way
Forward into their own lives
Enjoying all they see
Living as delightful souls
As more one day will be
