Could you
know what it is to be
leading a pack
of hungry wolves
as we attack
a Bison a great woolly brute in the snow
twenty times heavier, and for our cubs to grow
they need meat in their stomachs
as fresh as can be
we regurgitate but
that’s sharing and we
have a hard enough life
without being threatened
by that wolf hating strife
I am that wolf
and I cannot abide
men who on film threaten us
hide
I say
you have your ranches
you do
great cattle sheds
and guns, and would screw
us into the ground if you could
but its best
you realise we really
are up to the test
for decades before
you came here
we ran
with the wind and the storm
that how life began
we ran and we ran
for miles yes and some
our hearts beating just
like the Lakota drum
we are the wolves
the wilderness pack
we expect some respect
but there’s none coming back
