Street dogs have their problems
\nthere are many hazards and
\nfleas and ticks and lice
\nall sorts
\nand to understand
\nthat takes on a cognitive
\nrealization and we
\nwhen appreciating the problem
\nand being prepared to see<\/p>\n
In China there are problems
\nnot least one of its size
\nits own population and its animals
\na rise
\nin numbers
\nlots of street strays
\nand a policy alas
\nof killing them and eating them
\nand catching them on mass<\/p>\n
the event known as the bathing
\ndoes just allay those fears
\nwith assistance by a band of really
\ntoughtful volunteers
\nwho come along who give their time
\nto bathe the dogs and free
\nthem from the dirt and pestilence
\nthat otherwise would be<\/p>\n
causing them aggravation
\nits shows you what we can
\ndo for other earthlings
\nwhose life’s gone down the pan
\nand don’t look so vibrant
\nand can’t they see its great
\nwagging tails and soft warm barks
\nreally each does wait
\nto have their bathing treatment
\nits hands on and its good
\nevery dog feels better
\nand of course it should<\/p>\n
this is good for China
\nfor the cesspool which we’ve seen
\nthe tragedy of history
\nof the killing that’s obscene
\nthe heartless and vile butchers
\nthat work in markets where
\ndogs and cats are caged up
\nand living in despair<\/p>\n
so slowly things are changing
\nthe irrational begin
\nto understand the chaos
\nand from all that the sin
\nis misplaced in society
\nand must be filed away
\nwhat was born out of negligence
\nthere’s clear evidence today<\/p>\n
activists are surfacing
\nexamining the role
\na moral code apparent
\neach must have a goal
\na keen appreciation
\nto discover a new way
\nto expose the dreadful practices
\nin a kind of expose<\/p>\n
the great bathing is so wonderful
\nthe dogs appreciate
\nlook at the joy that they express
\nit is a marvellous trait
\nin dog who show their loyalty
\ntheir love and abounding care
\nand given this understanding
\nhopefully will fare<\/p>\n
better in the scheme of things
\nand get a better deal
\nthat a premonition
\nperhaps the way I feel
\nimagination gives us
\na perspective yes on call
\nand perhaps the canine tribe
\nwill blossom
