Yes I am that German Shepherd
\na proud boy in my way
\nforced to live in a dark cold shack
\nwhy I was forced to pay
\nsuch a price for living
\nchained up to a wall
\nmy back leg sort of under me
\nand no one to hear my call<\/p>\n
such pain a gnawing loneliness
\nthat sucked me of my strength
\nsometimes I was given food
\nbut gradually the length
\nof time between feeds
\nworsened
\nand I was left alone
\nwhen I heard something
\nof course I barked
\nbut weakened
\nI did groan<\/p>\n
days and nights passed
\nslowly
\nthe pain inside of me
\nwhat I would have given
\nthe sunlight just to see
\nto run through all the tall grass
\nand leap into that pool
\nand feel that cold sweet water
\nas in it I did fall<\/p>\n
but no this chain was cutting
\ninto me every day
\nI dare not try to pull on it
\nfor it just made me pay
\nI knew that I was bleeding
\nalready, I could feel
\nthe agony which seemed to me
\nto be so very real<\/p>\n
it seemed to attract blue bottles
\nthey laid eggs on my skin
\nand maggots began eating me
\nI felt them within
\nbut my neck was sore
\nand bloody
\nmy fur was matted so
\nI felt so weak I dare not move
\nI prayed aloud to go<\/p>\n
the rainbow bridge seemed closer
\nthe tunnel to that place
\nlonger than it might have been
\nif I could have seen my face
\nI am Axcel once a very proud
\nGerman Shepherd but I
\nhave suffered like no other
\nno other German guy<\/p>\n
my so called human masters
\nhurt me very much
\nmy loyalty was squandered
\nthey wouldn’t even touch
\nme
\nI of course am tactile
\nI love to feel warm hands<\/p>\n
but alone like this
\nI truly have no plans
\nother than to die here
\nthe maggots at least can
\nfeast upon my body
\nas my life goes down the pan<\/p>\n
and then as I was resting
\nhaving fasted many days
\nhaving realised my end was near
\nI was reaching a phase
\nwhere nothing seemed to matter
\nthe pain had gone away
\na light came through a door
\nI heard a voice which seemed to say<\/p>\n
something
\nhad I reached the rainbow bridge
\nthat special place
\nwhat was happening in my life
\nthere, but for God’s grace
\nand then great light was with me
\nthe door was open wide
\nsomeone else was with me
\nsomeone else inside<\/p>\n
a soft voice a sweet pat I felt
\nwas I being saved
\nwas I being rescued
\ninside of me I raved
\nyes I was <\/p>\n
and here I am
\nback in touch with life
\nlovely people at my side
\nwho care
