This is the height of arrogance
\nTo take a wild game fish
\nThat fights its way upstream to breed
\nThat salmon some relish
\nThis mighty marvellous miracle
\nand fascinating soul
\nMen decides to farm it
\nAnd somehow to control<\/p>\n
Its most important urges
\nInstinctively inbred
\nTo cram it, into a great cage
\nWhere thousands then are fed
\nHuge numbers of them side by side
\nAttract sea lice, of course
\nWhy search the bloody ocean wide
\nWhen the tour de force<\/p>\n
Is mosey over to that place
\nwhere thousands strut their stuff
\nAnd hang around consuming them
\nyou just can’t get enough
\nAnd then disease and parasites
\nHave their own field day
\nThe salmon are contained
\nwithin this soup,and they do pay<\/p>\n
For man has acted ignorantly
\nHas locked his charges where
\nHe can and does control their lives
\nAnd bring them to despair
\nFeed them on unnatural coloured crap
\nIntroduce the pharmaceuticals
\nAnd let them sap
\nThe energy and the spirit
\nout of these brave fish
\nWhose flesh will have a rosy hue
\nReady for the dish<\/p>\n
Defending that investment
\nin the controlled way
\nCompletely changing how the salmon
\nlives from day to day
\nThat instinctive spark
\nThat generates, its willingness to go
\nBack to where it began its life
\nTo the actual spot you know<\/p>\n
This intriguing spectacle is what
\neach Salmon does
\nIt is in fact an integral part
\nof what gives it that buzz
\nBut Men replace that process
\nWith the prison in the sea
\nCramming more and more inside
\nThan there should ever be<\/p>\n
Unthinking of the freedom
\nthis mighty beast had known
\nUncaring of its environt
\nHow steadily it had grown
\nBut however well its imprisoned
\nIt did not occur to man
\nThat the urge for freedom
\nfar exceeds whatever man did plan<\/p>\n
And so a lot escape this purgatory
\nand will mate
\nWith all the wild creative ones
\nWho did control their fate
\nAnd by this inimical process
\nWe are left, to berate
\nThe arrogance a fore thought
\nFor this greed they employed
\nWhich may see the end of the truly wild
\nWhich is hard now to avoid<\/p>\n
Aquaculture introduced
\nto control
\nthe natural flow
\nThe organic movement also
\nsprang to life we know
\nInjected charitable gifts
\nInto the pot to help the cause
\nCreating brand new standards
\nAnd receiving some applause<\/p>\n
But the public do not realise
\nFor most, sadly don’t care
\nThe fish won’t get a look in
\nThey don’t go anywhere
\nWhen vital sparks within them
\nTell them its time to go
\nThe organic mob
\nmove in and they are dead
\nBefore they know<\/p>\n
Packed and processed
\nCertified, and sold at a premium price
\nBut as to nature and the natural world
\nThis movement wasn’t nice
\nAnd of course there will be comebacks
\nWhen every salmon born
\nIs inseminated artificially
\nNone heed, what I warn<\/p>\n
Too star struck by the margins
\nAnd the market that does grow
\nTo remember the wild salmon
\nWe have violated so
\nEven those organic fish
\nin their organic place
\nget their share of pesticides
\nto chase Away the dreaded sea lice
\nthat otherwise might grace
\nThe bodies of these precious souls
\nWho roam the salty sea
\nFed to standards, that is true
\nBut is so bad actually<\/p>\n
And in Canada and elsewhere
\ndiseases are now rife
\npappy heart and other problems
\nyes of course the strife
\nandit affect wild and farmed species
\nits not normal too
\nfarm wild fish and profiteers
\nwill suffer for they do<\/p>\n
draw in so much arrogance
\nand omit the natural state
\nthey just see dollars in the bank
\nfor them that’s all that’s great
\nbut Nature has a way of fighting back
\nand they will see
\nthat all that work they thought was good
\nwill come back on them and be<\/p>\n
worse than they imagined
\ndead fish everywhere
\nthe supermarkets will be selling the disease
\nand you will share
\nthe evils of the economy
\nand international trade
\nwhen the world wakes up
\nit will be too late
\non all your heads its laid<\/p>\n
pollution from the fish farms
\nis awesome its so bad
\nand wild fish swimming through that soup
\nsoon know they’ve been had
\nthey will not make their spawning grounds
\nfor its virulent and sick
\nthey will all die before they’ve laid their eggs
\nNature doesn’t miss a trick<\/p>\n
The bears the eagles the indigenous
\nwill miss out on the catch
\nthat is something once again
\nthe profiteers can’t match
\nbut the knock on effect of all of that
\nbrought on by man’s intent
\non profit in the short term
