Bearded, sleek and powerful
\nOur friend the Bison, who
\nroams the realms of Yellowstone
\nand other landscapes too
\n6 feet, from hoof to shoulder
\nand can weigh some, 2 tonnes
\nThe females average half that size
\nAnd the bold one runs
\nAt 30mph, if the inclination’s there
\nThoroughly protective of a mate
\nthey do not share<\/p>\n
They really like to wallow
\nand swallow chewed up cud
\nthey do enjoy their mornings
\ngroups of them, strong blood
\nbetween them, this involvement
\nshows great elements of care
\nGrazers with a difference
\ngrass and sedge aware
\nthey will supplement with lichens
\nand even berries, they
\nwill use their head to clear fresh snow
\nyes clear it all away
\nTo kill them for their meat
\nis cruel
\nIts not as if those who
\nDo this, are now starving
\nIts just profit that’s my view<\/p>\n
Wild creatures need protection
\nFrom the ugliness of man
\nWho will slaughter everything on earth
\nWhich he’s done since time began
\nThe Bison has great spirit
\nAnd a serenity of mind
\nAmerica, Protect them
\nThis light has always shined
\nAmerica Protect them
\nThese giants of the field
\nslaughter them at your peril
\nFor their lily you won’t gild<\/p>\n
They are special
\nLong before, you men
\nspread yourself around
\nHeritage has saved them
\nThat’s my judgement
\nand its sound
\nthe wolf may take a few of them
\nthat’s the order here
\nits generally the weaker ones
\nand that is very clear
\nthe older ones
\nthe injured one’s
\nthe wolf will take them out
