She came again this morning
\nThe spiny one was here
\nA Hog living in hedges
\nWhose description isn\u2019t clear
\nIt really is perplexing
\nThis insect eating soul
\nLots of different stories
\nAbout how she can control<\/p>\n
Things
\nrolls up into a little ball
\nWhich then becomes a way
\nOf avoiding the enemy
\nWho might be around today
\nShe is nothing like a pig though
\nSeeking out earth worms
\nCaterpillars and frogs and snakes
\nA timid beast whose terms<\/p>\n
Are much to do with water
\nOr carrion perhaps
\nHunting on the dewy turf
\nWhen it\u2019s shadowy and sort of wraps
\nA bit more like the taste of roaches
\nAll of this seems grim<\/p>\n
They like to camp in rabbit holes
\nOr In a pile of leaves
\nGetting plumper by the month
\nEating it achieves
\nA Body for hibernation
\nAnd all of this believes
\nIn everywhere it goes
\nIt\u2019s honest to good behaviour
\nIn whatever place it flows
\nIt tends to try
\nAnd stick awhile
\nEscape from the chasing one
\nWith a body supply of winter fat
\nAnd a disappearing sun<\/p>\n
However severe the Winter
\nIt\u2019s hibernation is profound
\nLooking rather torpid
\nLying on the ground
\nAlong with rotting apples
\nImpaled lightly on its spines
\nArchitecturally on par
\nWhere we all see the signs<\/p>\n
It\u2019s nothing like a pig though
\nIt\u2019s a wild life soul
\nAll sorts of ditties come to mind
\nA sort of mini troll
\nSometimes brought indoors I hear
\nFor some rest, that\u2019s true
\nA bristling fire of coal and log
\nAnd chestnuts and a brew
\nAlong with assorted pine cones, and herbal nosegays
\nWe
\nToast crusty bread and pickles
