Quiet days in the garden
\nOften we may find
\nWe have a small visitor
\nWho helps us to unwind
\nOffering an assured ness
\nAttesting to a way
\nOf ascertaining spirit
\nAt the back end of the day<\/p>\n
A little feathered creature
\nBrandishing it\u2019s breast
\nColoured by the food it eats
\nOh yes I do not jest
\nIt pursues its kind of justice
\nWith a melancholic air
\nAnd a dose of lateral thinking
\nIn which it tends to share<\/p>\n
A certainty of knowledge
\nA reliability
\nA song bird voicing beauty
\nWhich it shares now constantly
\nAuthoritative though calming
\nA tiny little soul
\nequivalent to a table spoon of water
\nAnd it\u2019s role
\nIn the general scheme of things
\nIt wants to console<\/p>\n
Us with its fleeting wisdom
\nIt\u2019s heart is beating fast
\nEvery single second
\nSix beats I hear is cast
\nCompared to us one beat only
\nOur friendly Robin, she
\nCertainly runs at a different speed
\nWhich is her necessity<\/p>\n
Warriors in tiny bodies
\nDefending territorial rights
\nUnquestionable tenacity
\nIt gets into small fights
\nWith its moral certainty
\nEverywhere it goes
\nA watcher in our garden
\nInto every flower that grows<\/p>\n
Loving the leaf litter
\nFor in its dampness lies
\nA myriad of creatures
\nWhich the Robin doth surprise
\nThe beetles and the spiders
\nEarth worms too maybe
\nBut also loves the berries
\nAnd the soft fruits comfortingly <\/p>\n
A songster melancholic
\nSinging everyday
\nEarly in the morning
\nAnd at dusk too
\nEveryday
\nSinging through the Winters
\nUnlike the blackbird who
\nResonates with peace and quiet
\nWhich apparently is true<\/p>\n
Robins have a sub song
\nSeemingly they confirm
\nThey are singing for their supper
\nThat extra juicy worm
\nThanking the almighty
\nFor providing the fair
\nThey come to watch us gardeners
\nWho just happen to be there <\/p>\n
And warble perhaps to comfort
\nWatch our every move
\nThey have a very reflective tone
\nKind of in the groove
\nAnd where they choose
\nTo construct their nests
\nIs purposeful and weird
\nIn old kettles and cast off boots
\nHanging baskets where
\nThey can redesign their cups
