{"id":71019,"date":"2026-02-24T17:17:45","date_gmt":"2026-02-24T17:17:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cooksdelight.co.uk\/blog\/?p=71019"},"modified":"2026-02-24T21:55:58","modified_gmt":"2026-02-24T21:55:58","slug":"the-epitome-of-godliness","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cooksdelight.co.uk\/blog\/2026\/02\/the-epitome-of-godliness\/","title":{"rendered":"The epitome of godliness"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The epitome of godliness<br \/>\nThe Sheep its evolutionary trait<br \/>\nThat of  prey<br \/>\nAn animal<br \/>\nWhose life in fact<br \/>\nSeen as sedate<\/p>\n<p>Wild grazing in the open<br \/>\nThey ululate and wail<br \/>\nSo much is done internally<br \/>\nChanges that derail<br \/>\nLamenting how they elegise<br \/>\nGrimacing<br \/>\na tale<br \/>\nOf wretchedness and misery<br \/>\nOf a sluggish joyless gait<br \/>\nMatter of fact and prosaic<br \/>\nAn awareness of their fate<\/p>\n<p>In a field near Ditching Beacon<br \/>\nOut on the South Downs<br \/>\nRueful of our situation<br \/>\nAll the little towns<br \/>\nAround are quiet and easy going<br \/>\nWe count our blessings and<br \/>\nAre martyr\u2019s to the wool trade<br \/>\nFeeding off the land<\/p>\n<p>Wild grasses and good herbage<br \/>\nMedicinally<br \/>\nbalancing in real terms<br \/>\nSuch sensitivity<br \/>\nResponsive to the environment<br \/>\nWith that reasoning in view<br \/>\nfree out in the open<br \/>\nBountiful and true<br \/>\nAware of the external<br \/>\nForces<br \/>\nand a sober point of view<\/p>\n<p>Vibrant and responsive<br \/>\nMalleable to might<br \/>\nfor the latest<br \/>\nPronouncements<br \/>\nin the dead of night<br \/>\nEffective bio security<br \/>\nA lesson the aware<br \/>\nRealise and imagine<br \/>\nAs animals we share<\/p>\n<p>What is the intimidation<br \/>\nYouth around the place<br \/>\nSabre rattling jittery types<br \/>\nWho close in on our face<br \/>\nAn oddness and a queerness<br \/>\nGrotesque buffoonery<br \/>\nAn agricultural blemish<br \/>\nTo what is adversity<\/p>\n<p>The unsightly disfigured<br \/>\nMorons<br \/>\nStudents tragically<br \/>\nOdious monsters living<br \/>\nClose by it seems to me<br \/>\nTheir ugly faces often<br \/>\nShow close to our style<br \/>\nUninteresting layabouts<br \/>\nOn line all the while<\/p>\n<p>Dispassionate young people<br \/>\nSuch vile stupidity<br \/>\nNo respect for the countryside<br \/>\nOr the likes of me<br \/>\nStolid and dispassionate<br \/>\nImperturbability<br \/>\nSoulless heartless vagrants<br \/>\nInsensate deliberately<\/p>\n<p>Itching to beat up on us<br \/>\nA rashness and vulgarity<br \/>\nInsensitive to refinement<br \/>\nTactless promiscuity<br \/>\nAgricultural students<br \/>\nKnow all\u2019s,  to be sure<br \/>\nGroundless and irrelevant<br \/>\nThe type most would ignore<\/p>\n<p>They came from Plumpton College<br \/>\nHigher education<br \/>\nLand based and related subjects<br \/>\nA counter demonstration<br \/>\nOf ignorance and arrogance<br \/>\nHarshly beat me down<br \/>\nUsed bird frightening explosives<br \/>\nAnd really went to town<\/p>\n<p>Explosions every which way<br \/>\nSadistically the two<br \/>\nLeighton Ashby and Oakley Holland<br \/>\nThey beat me black and blue<br \/>\nThe agony was awful<br \/>\nEvery part of me<br \/>\nBroken up and burning<br \/>\nAnd no one to hear my plea<\/p>\n<p>They claimed superiority<br \/>\nContemptuousness they shared<br \/>\nSpurned me and despised me<br \/>\nSeemingly they dared<br \/>\nTo punish and to outwardly blame<br \/>\nThe innocence I bore<br \/>\nTried to destroy my being<br \/>\nThey together broke me more<\/p>\n<p>Were absolutely wicked<br \/>\nThe enormity<br \/>\nOf beating me to death<br \/>\nAnd watch me baying tragically<br \/>\nThe last moments so agonising<br \/>\nCriminal depravity<br \/>\nA terrible wrong-doing<br \/>\nYes that is what they did to me.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The epitome of godliness The Sheep its evolutionary trait That of prey An animal Whose life in fact Seen as sedate Wild grazing in the open They ululate and wail So much is done internally Changes that derail Lamenting how &hellip;
