Downer calves
\nthose very sad young babies
\nused for veal
\nthat’s baby cow meat, we
\nhuman beings satiated
\non the milky flesh
\na premonition
\nof gullibility
\nhow can we sit down
\nand eat young babies
\nrejects
\n we have made them this because
\nwe keep the mother pregnant
\nso her milk, we can steal
\nand either kill her offspring

remember these are ungulates

\ngrass out in the pasture

\nthey can’t walk having got so weak
