In the 13 th Century long ago
\nA hound called gelert and as we know
\nWas at home to protect
\nThe cottagers son
\nWhen the master left
\nAnd what he\u2019d done
\nWas attack and kill a mighty wolf
\nHe protected the son
\nYou bet he did
\nWhen his master returned
\nThe baby gone
\nThe master imagined
\nThe dog upon
\nThe babies bed
\nCovered in blood
\nSo he shot the dog
\nShot him dead<\/p>\n
Outside he found a great black wolf
\nBitten by Gelert
\nAnd realised
\nHis son was safe
\nThe wolf he\u2019d killed
\nIn a grave near where
\nThe dogs blood spilled<\/p>\n
Llewelyn the Great
\nHis cherished hound
\nThat he\u2019s doubted his loyalty
\nHe left in the ground
\nTo regret the seriousness
\nInflicted by
\nHis withering hand
\nWhich is, now why<\/p>\n
The hounds grave
\nForms part of the name
\nOf the village
\nTaking no real blame
\nThe meandering river
\nFlows over the stones and under the bridges
\nThat Nature owns<\/p>\n
Song birds thrill us
\nWater sounds too
\nLovely stone cottages
\nAll on view
\nA beautifully charming village green
