I live in the countryside
\nand pigeons here
\nare all of the wood
\nthat much is clear
\nA sort of white collar
\nPlumper than most
\nThey frequent our bushes
\nAnd sit on my post<\/p>\n
Like magpies the pigeons
\nAre mostly in pairs
\nRomantic birds
\nWho share their affairs
\nLike sitting up on the telegraph wire
\nOr on the back gate
\nOr the summer house spire<\/p>\n
In the wild they live up to 5 years
\nSo I have heard
\nQuite a long time for such a nice bird
\nThey seem to eat well
\nAnd have a dense coat
\nThey bill and they coo
\nIn the evening I note.<\/p>\n
The ones in town are slimmer by far
\nColumba they call them
\nBeggars they are
\nOut in the centres if somebody feeds
\nthey congregate
\nHoping for tasty seeds.<\/p>\n
Life must be hard for birds everywhere
\nSome people feed them
\nOthers don\u2019t. Care
\nMixed seeds and fat balls
\nAnd fruit and some bread
\nShared with the squirrels
