Just north of Woodhall Farm
\nout on the Redbourn Road, she lay
\na darling Muntjac doe
\nspent, and in the way
\nof cars their headlights
\npulling in great spaces of the night
\nand clearly she’d been frightened
\nbeing not of a great height<\/p>\n
tripping across the highway
\nno doubt a little slow
\nwas knocked over by a vehicle
\nshe was motionless, we know
\npassing on the other side
\nwe turned around to see
\nand when the road was
\ngood and clear
\nwe carried her gently<\/p>\n
we told her, we hoped
\nit had been a painless
\nend for her
\nand laid her gently on the bank
\nit does, its does occur
\nto us how very sad to see
\na perfect soul struck down
\nher little hooves
\nand she still warm
\nwearing her furry gown<\/p>\n
we wished her peace
\nand her sad release
\nwas not opportune of course
\nbut at least,
\nwe both were able
\nto prevent
\nmore crushing force
\nfor cars were coming
\nvery close
\nand might have ripped and torn
\nher little body further
\nso why not, with us mourn<\/p>\n
the loss of one small animal
\nan innocent wee doe
\nwho faced up to a vehicle
\nand lost her right to glow
\nlost her way and lost her life
\nthe path apparently
\nled out across the Redbourn Road
