Living in a canal
\n Not far away
\nA perch or a pike
\nOr a gudgeon
\nEach day
\nLiving in a peaceful existence
\nWhere we see the ducks over head and the sky<\/p>\n
Below in the mud
\nThere are worms everywhere
\nThere are all sorts of creatures
\nIn a life we all share
\nIt\u2019s black and it\u2019s dark
\nTill we come up for air
\nWe see the blue sky
\nIn <\/p>\n
From our watery fair<\/p>\n
Boats chug along
\nDiesel doesn\u2019t belong
\nSome toss their muck
\nOn the surface the ducks sits
\nAs do others
\nNobody cares
\nThese days there\u2019s no one
\nSaying their prayers<\/p>\n
Old bikes are tossed
\nA tangle of wire
\nGlass bottles and coke cans
\nDown here it\u2019s dire
\nWe all have to live in this filth
\nAnd this muck
\nWhere The odd heron peers
\nThe swan and the duck<\/p>\n
Life goes on under the bridges
\nAnd we
\nthe freshwater fish
\nStruggle to see
\nAbove all the humans
\nThrow bread everywhere
\nCreating a stink
\nAnd so much despair<\/p>\n
Rats there are many
\nSwim all about
\nThe countryside sadly
\nSo many flout
\nAll sorts of chemicals
\nAll sorts of shit
\nFrom your big chicken factories
\nWe get a bit<\/p>\n
It\u2019s killing us daily
\nNo one though hears
\nFactories everywhere
\nSo many fears
\nRain down on our world
\nFrom your world above
\nPollution and slurry
\nAnd miniscule love<\/p>\n
Animals come to drink
\nWe smell their fear
\nWe see their eyes caked with a tear
\nThey are being killed
\nAnd eaten we hear
\nAnd the excrement laid on the land
\nIt is clear<\/p>\n
In the canals the bold arteries where
\nWe get the mess it is everywhere
\nFarmers apparently have no regard
\nFor us creatures down here
\nWho are sadly off guard
\nSadly diseased lost souls for sure
\nPicked off by course fishermen
\nWho still ignore
\nTheir hooks and their ground bait
\nPollute all the time
\nSome end up in their creels
\nAnd just become slime
\nWorms silent Riggling no body knows
\nThe filth and the muck
