Having kept some backyard chickens
\nWhen I was but a child
\nI kind of learned to love them
\nIn many ways they are wild
\nExcitable and present
\nThey eat all of the time
\nThey poop a lot
\nThey do not pee
\nNight and day
\nIt\u2019s how they be<\/p>\n
I learned a lot about wild foods
\nAnd collected stuff so they
\nCould get a bout of tonifying stuff
\nAlong the way
\n4 huge barns
\n220,000 chicken, they
\nConfined to so much fury
\nEvery single day
\nEnding up as processed meat
\nAt Ruscliffe Borough where
\nCreating chickens for the table
\nHonestly, I despair<\/p>\n
They are amazing actually
\nA mega facility
\nThe smell will not be low
\nThe base ecology
\nEach has an identity
\nUniformity
\nIt might be in accordance
\nWith the scale
\nBut honestly
\nAssembly lines and
\nLife itself it\u2019s not the same you see<\/p>\n
They have hearts and souls and as
\nLiving beings
\nThey think outside the cage
\nPacked into colossal barns
\nIt\u2019s really hard to gauge
\nWhat happens to an army
\nTheir similarity
\nThe intensification
\nAmounts to cruelty<\/p>\n
Two staff and a process team
\nImagining the din
\nThe smells
\nThe air the closeness
\nThe chickens cannot win
\nIt\u2019s going to be a production line
\nA concentration camp
\nWhy animals have to tow our line
\nAnd we expect to stamp
\nOut our various systems
\nExpecting these birds to
\nAnswer to our regimen
\nFrom birth to death
\nThe view
\nOutput profit environments
\nInternal done with care
\nIts easy to write words down I know
\nBut to really be aware
\nOf the numbers here
\nHuge numbers
\nDisorder from the start
\nDisharmony and foulness
\nUnhealthy seems to me
\nPollution is a problem
\nThere is no set lavatory
\nChickens they mess anywhere
\nThe stench can really be
\nGerm laden and venomous
