Elephants and zoo’s
\ndon’t go together
\nherds will tramp for miles
\nhow can it be?
\nhow can we house an
\nelephant in a concrete yard
\nin a foreign climate
\nand do it thoughtlessly
\na rubber tyre its plaything
\na stark and nasty place
\nthis animals is the evidence
\nof our cruelest human face
\nhow do we sleep at night folks
\nRomania must see
\nan elephant so demoralised
\nas to kneel submissively
\nas to beg, and so forlornly
\ndissipate its soul
\nits urge to trample
\nover us
\nwe who take on the role
\nof gaoler to the masses
\nwho wait alone to die
\nzoo’s do nothing for ele’s
\nonly make them cry
\nlament the fondest memories
\nof the great herds
\nwhen they ran
\nacross the plain
\nthrough sweet hot rain
\nfar away from man
\nand now look at this earthling
\ntransported from its birth
\nplace across the oceans
\nto a hell hole known as earth
\nbut in part it does speak volumes
\nfor the money grabbing ways
\nhumans fall in to the trap
\nof thinking this stuff pays
\nZoo’s do not help elephants
\nZoo’s are concrete hells
\nand people thinking otherwise
\nare clearly under spells
\ncreated by the corporates
\nwho imagine we can save
\nthe wildest ones by
\nincarceration
\nin our walk in grave
\nthe solace and the misery
\nfoisted on those who
\nare trapped and put onto display
\nwhich is what we do
\nor have them doing
\nrides around the zoo park
\nonce again
\nan elephants feet were not
\ndesigned to suffer
\nall this pain
\nfrom walking on our tarmac on our concrete
\nwe don’t care
\nas long as we’re making money
