Avebury<\/p>\n
the neolithis henge in Wiltshire wild<\/p>\n
we had spent a day there<\/p>\n
despite it being mild<\/p>\n
on and off it had \u00a0rained hard<\/p>\n
and with Puddles everwhere<\/p>\n
we both felt tired and miserable<\/p>\n
and very aware<\/p>\n
of the journey home<\/p>\n
we would get Sat Nav on the case<\/p>\n
use the heater to dry our hair<\/p>\n
and get us back to base.<\/p>\n
a mile or so along the road<\/p>\n
sat nav suggested we<\/p>\n
turn off to the left<\/p>\n
and down a lane \u00a0it seemed to me<\/p>\n
It might be a short cut<\/p>\n
at least i hoped it was<\/p>\n
the lane got narrower<\/p>\n
and more boggy<\/p>\n
and that was \u00a0just because<\/p>\n
sat navs really can be a pain<\/p>\n
and clearly \u00a0this one \u00a0erred<\/p>\n
after a mile we were in a field<\/p>\n
and, what had occurred<\/p>\n
no space to \u00a0turn around<\/p>\n
so cagily i drove backwards<\/p>\n
rather slowly and the ground<\/p>\n
was sloshing \u00a0and with all the luck<\/p>\n
i got \u00a0back to the lane<\/p>\n
and \u00a0then reversed \u00a0back all the way<\/p>\n
and it was \u00a0such a pain<\/p>\n
had to stop and get out a number of times<\/p>\n
and found<\/p>\n
a little owl not once but twice<\/p>\n
“i wanted \u00a0to throw in the towel”<\/p>\n
either side of thev winding lane was water and a deep bog<\/p>\n
driving carefully no mistakes<\/p>\n
it really was a \u00a0slog<\/p>\n
pitch black dark no one about<\/p>\n
nobody would know<\/p>\n
reversing into a quagmire<\/p>\n
the fear in me did grow<\/p>\n
but at last we reached the \u00a0main road<\/p>\n
as for sat nav a machine<\/p>\n
if anybody mentions Avebury to me<\/p>\n
i say i have been!!<\/p>\n
the darkness the bog thelittle owls<\/p>\n
all come back to me<\/p>\n
remembering \u00a0the perilous drive<\/p>\n
Yes deep in my psyche.<\/p>\n
