Today I drove to Oxfordshire
\nTo the ancient ROLLRIGHT Stones
\nIt was dull when I left Hertfordshire
\nBut by lunch time many tones
\nFrom the light intensely vivid
\nAnd every kind of hue
\nDepicted on the roadsides
\nProduced a scintillating view
\nThe Hawthorns already were ablaze
\nWith blossoms
\nthree weeks early
\nA factor to amaze
\nHedgerow planted daffodils
\nAnd so much clarity
\nOf colour really everywhere
\nan inspiring place to be
\nThe winding roads
\nThe Stone built houses
\nFloral splendour everywhere
\nThe Naturalness of Spring
\nIts burst of new life
\nWanting all to share
\nThe effulgence of each moment
\nAs it flashes by
\nTaking in the greenery
\nAnd the gradually bluish sky
\nA kaleidoscopic vista
\nSo joyful to the eye.<\/p>\n
The sun had brought the
\nPheasants Cocks and Hens at play
\nStrutting at the road edge
\nSuch innocence does pay
\nA high price, as sadly motorists
\nAre driving speedily
\nAnd these birds unabated
\nJust wandering aimlessly
\nAre coming into contact
\nA lot of victims, lay
\nCrushed under a speeding car
\nA naivete in play
\nA lack of understanding
\nAnd duty of care
\nDriver some see the dead victims
\nBut are adding to their despair
\nThe actual lack
\nof awareness coupled with
\nDriving fast
\n\u201cAnd there\u2019s one attempting
\nTo cross right now\u201d
\nWho feels that rapid blast
\nDying just in moments
\nStopping!
\nhazard lights
\nPlace the bird in the hedgerows
\nWhilst perceptivily it fights
\nFor life
\nBut we Do this rather than leave it
\nTo be crushed as it will be
\nUnder the tyres of other cars
\nComing constantly<\/p>\n
Then A number of Badgers too
\nThese country lanes
\nAre Death traps true
\nOne wonders whether wild
\nfolk
\nAre ever baffled
\nIn each attempt to cross
\nSome do make it others don\u2019t
\nWhich becomes a family loss<\/p>\n
The evidence is everywhere
\nOn the roads today
\nThe misery it causes
\nFor the families
\nIt must pray
\nOn all their minds
\nConsiderably
\nSentients they be
\nAnd losing loved ones
\nClearly
\nHas to be a tragedy
\nA sadness to recount for sure
\nThe ancientness on hand
\nNeolithic relics
\nAnd the ignorant whose hand
\nHas to be all over them
\nEven sitting on
\n4000 years of history
\nThe Stones they are no con
\nRespect get off the time its taken
\nWeathers us and we
\nNeed your cooperation not
\nYour weight
\nIt musn\u2019t be
\nSat upon
\nKicking your feet
\nRespect our ancient wonderland
\nWhere ritual makers meet<\/p>\n
It\u2019s prominent on the Notice Board
\nLook but do not touch
\nHave respect for the history
\nIts long, and it needs so much
\nThought when visiting
\nAncient sites
\nSo to see folk seated there
\nIs hurtful, and is damaging
\nGiving others some despair
\nThe rights of care
\nAre paramount
\nAnd breaking them should be
\nLiable to a reprimand
\nOr a hefty penalty.<\/p>\n
It is a bounden duty
\nTo protect the ancient sites
\n4000 years of weathering
\nWithstanding the wind that bites
\nInto ancient sandstone
\nThus all are duty bound
\nTo report the vandals
\nWhoever they are
\nAnd wherever they are found.<\/p>\n
